What are views on this car for a first time driver?

Oh God no ... please buy a Japanese car or even a German made car anything else second hand will probably end up costing you more money in repairs.

loads for crap... in the 5 years and 70,000 miles i have it its been in the garage 2 times (and the first was covered under warranty) so I don't know what all these people who say pugs are really expensive to run are on about...

Not really Japanese made cars have a proven track record of reliability and low maintenance costs you may have got yourself a good Peugeot and many others probably have too but when it comes to build quality and reliability the Japanese car makers put most european car makers to shame. I'd take a Starlet, Yaris, Colt, or even a Suzuki Swift any day over a 1L Peugot as it is I think Peugeot make nice cars but I'd rather buy something that has a tried and trusted reliabily record.

Check out HonestJohn for more info 5th from bottom on the reliability index

Looks like you have got the only working model in the Republic:)

Bacchus that was classic, foxylady, my Ms' just bought her first car a peugout 106 for €750 lids. It would shake the molers from your head at 60kmh, the exhaust is about to drop-off, the brakes are none existant even thought I have changed the pads and fluid and the car interior has rotted from teh amount of water that has got past the leaky seals. It was against my better judgement to but a puegot 106, but it cost SWFA and it stops her driving mine. I just wouldn't advise spending more than 1G or thereabouts for anything up to "96". Happy motoring............

I have a 92 peugeot 106 for last 7years:
50k on the clock, 2 careful lady owners, very good condition, starts every morning, not for sale:)

I bought a 106 in '97. Great car & I absolutely loved it, till some idiot in a Merc rear ended me & wrote it off in '03. I traded up to a 206, which incidently hasn't given me a days trouble & I hear my old 106 is still going strong for the lady who bought it after it had been repaired.
I have heard that the '99 versions gave trouble for some reason, so perhaps like wine there are good years & bad ones.
