Hello,

Just wondering has anyone bought in Peru. How did they find it?
Any opinions welcomed!

Peru is poor. It has been poor a long time. It is unlikely to suddenly become rich, so if you're buying for "capital appreciation" I think you're wasting your time. I was there recently on holidays, it is a beautiful country and is dirt cheap. Malaria is a problem in the interior, not so much along the coast.

30-50% of travellers to Peru come down with gippy stomach. You cannot drink the tapwater. When it rains it really rains, but usually only in the late afternoon. It's generally at least 3 stops to get from Ireland to Lima.

Sounds a lot like the Cape Verde islands.

I know gippy stomachs are common, but where did you get this figure? It should also be noted that gippy stomachs are common to other countries in the region as well.

On the buying property note, I have to say it would strike me as an odd location for investment. Very poor, as previously noted. Maybe buying somewhere with potential tourist rental income, i.e. Lima, Arequipa (beautiful city btw) or Cusco would be a better bet?

It's also a very very long way to travel for maintenance, etc.

Those were the sort of figures I saw quoted on various when looking up vaccinations etc. I'm sure the word "gippy" was probably not used

do Ryanair fly there yet ?
the world is gone crazy.. or at least us irish are.
i can understand somewhere in europe but south america is a whole world away..
what do you do if there is a problem over there .....

If you were going to invest in S. America i would advise into looking into Buenos Aires. There economy is growing at the moment and its becoming popular as a cheap retirement destination for Americans.

Do you mean North Americans?
