Personal Guarantee Liquidated Company any way out?

Hello,

I was a company director back in 2009 and the company went in to liquidation. However the company took out a loan of €68,000 the previous year, which I signed as guarantee.

Now since the closure of the business, the bank have been chasing me for a while and I have been paying a small amount every week but I cannot afford this repayment or loan.

Is there any way of getting out or if i default will it affect my personal credit?
