Does anybody have any idea what a normal percentage fee would be to pay somebody who has overseen a renovation project? I got renovation work done on a holiday home, and the person who organised it for me in my absence has now become a good friend and changes the subject whenever I start to talk about paying him. I'd like to just send him the money and save him the embarassment, especially since I know he and his wife are strapped for cash right now.
10% of the initial budget wouldn't be out of order. Most contractors would look for a bigger markup than this, I'm sure. If he did any work other than the supervision, that should be paid at an hourly rate, even if he was on site anyway.
