Penelty points for no Motor Tax?

Can you get penalty points for no Motor Tax? I changed the car last week and it is out of tax. I sent the change of name on the VRT cert off but i need that to tax it dont I? I also cant do without the vehicle, if i get cought by a Garda today what will happen?
 

No points for it.

But they can take the car if the tax is out more than 3 months (this may have been shortened).

Keep the paperwork with you , and the receipt stuck to the window and you will be fine.
 

Nothing. Don't you get a form, part of which you can detach and put on your windscreen, indicating a change of ownership? This effectively gives you a few weeks to get the tax sorted out.
