Penchmarking : the process by which public servants salaries are adjusted (downward) to account for the various public service superannuation schemes which are generally regarded to be superior to the pension arrangements outside the public service.

Not to be confused with Grinchmarking which is the sytematic removal of Christmas bonuses to Social Welfare and Old Age Pension recipients.

But the funny thing about plain old benchmarking itself (regardless of the reduction in other complemetary benefits) is how the bench or bar doesn't seem to get lowered as quickly, despite prevailing salary conditions elsewhere...
