Penalty Points Issues

I have Two questions that I would hope could get some thought:
1) My wife received a fine last July for speeding in Dungarvan. She paid this but has yet to receive points on her lisence. Is there a standard length of time before the points get added on.
2) Around the same time as she got the Dungarvan fine which she was awiting in the post as she was aware it happened. She also got a fine for Dublin. Anybody unlucky enough to get a fine will see that the actualy location of the offense is not well documented, so she assumed this was the Dungarvan one. She posted the cheque and gave the lisence details for the Dublin fine(always assuming it was the Dungarvan one). She got a letter back with the cheque saying they couldn't understand the lisence. This came on the same day as the Dungarvan fine came. She resent the cheque and details of the lisence back with the Dungaran details..A letter came back saying payment was received and hold for notice on penalty points(still waiting). We got a call from the guards with a summons on the night before xmas eve for the Dublin offense. We were both confused, embarressed and very angry..We went through all out files assuming we never got it, but low and behold this one was with the Dungarvan one. My wife had written on it the date and time she sent the cheque and the date and time she re-sent it.She even had spoken to the guards(central office) at the time about this on what was the problem with understanding the lisence..At the time(as she is well organised), she got a collegueue at work to sign the fine to say they witnessed the call!!!!)…My questions are..Should we get a solicitor or is this something we could represent ourselves. We obviously deserve the origional fine and 2 points, but an extra 2 points and a bigger fine would iritate bad.Any Suggestions or all confused?????

Represent yourself...if your wife is organised she will be one of the few people in court that applies to, of course you should approach the Gardai as well they have a duty to prevent unnecessary ct. cases. Also if found gulity in ct. points go up, this seems unfair but there you go!!

Eddie10,
what was the outcome of this? In a similar situation myself.
