PDA suggestions

Hi all,
I am considering purchasing my first PDA, and need a bit of help.
I need one with PDA, phone and camera (the camera needn't be excellent).
I understand that many PDA's lose their data if the battery goes flat. Are there any which have a permanent hard-drive (like a regular computer)?
I also need to put a fair bit of software onto whichever PDA i end up with.

Your suggestions would be much appreciated. Also is there anything else pertinent that I should be looking for in a PDA?

I know thats' all a bit vague, but thanks in advance.

I have a Palm Treo 600. It is a Palm PDA (I prefer Palm than Windows). I think its great. It is a phone , camera (not great quality), little keyboard. You can get almost brand new ones from Luzerntech on eBay. They are based in Dublin and they are the European distributers of remodeled ones. These are ones that may have been sold and were brought back in. I got one from them and it was brand new still boxed. They work out around half the price than buying in the shops. I paid around €300 over a year ago. The Treos were not even available to buy here then. The only one for sale in the shops was the XDA which cost around €600.

Re software: Basically reference material such as the oxford handbook of clinical medicine, BNF, etc.
