Paying with Sterling debit card - my address not recognised

I have an account with Ulster Bank in Newry.

Sometimes when I pay with my debit card, it comes up "address not recognised".

I checked with Ulster Bank and my address and eircode are exactly right.

They say it's a problem with the person I am trying to pay, but it's usually via Stripe or something like that.

Any ideas?

A guess would be that the merchant's payment acceptance partner is using Address Verification and is expecting people with debit cards that are linked to current accounts in a branch of a UK bank, to have an address within the UK. Chances are that because your address is outside the UK the system is, wrongly, falling down. Paying with Revolut would probably have a better chance of success.

Thanks TLO

I asked Ulster Bank that question and he said that he had not come across the problem before with an RoI address.

But I suspect that might well be it.

I did transfer the money from Ulster Bank to Revolut and paid it that way.
