Paying vat on imported goods

I ordered some goods from Vietnam. When they arrived the value on the box stated $200 but I paid $1350.

So I was only charged vat on the $200 value as this is what my supplier declared. Is it up to me to tell the supplier to put the correct valuation onto the box?

Can't comment on excise duties - I think thats what you're referring to.

Re VAT, its up to you to self-account for the VAT which will mean another bill for you of $1,350 x 23% (if 23% is the appropriate VAT rate for the imported goods)

It's up to you to tell the clearance agent the correct value. They are assuming the marked value is correct but you are still the responsible person.
So if audited, it may come back to you.
