Paying tax in Ireland but living in another EU country

Hi,

I own a couple of websites and derive my income from them entirely. I am paid from the US. Due to the fact I could work from any country on my websites is it possible to pay tax in Ireland but live in another EU country? I am totally clueless about this but I assume a lot will rely on the specific laws of the country I move to or is there an EU-wide law?

Thanks.

Re: Paying tax in Ireland but living in another EU country

This is a fairly complex area and professional advise might well be warranted. However, from my limited understanding, I don't think that there is any facility that would allow you to live (e.g. in Germany) and simply elect to pay your tax in Ireland to take advantage of the low corp tax rates here.

Note that if you move from Ireland to Germany, I think that you continue to be tax resident here for 2 or 3 years, so you may be able to do something like this in the short-term. But my knowledge in this area is not reliable.

again my info is limited but I think that if you were residing in the IOM running websites the income from the websites would be free of tax provided you did not supply services locally(in the IOM). but it is a complicated area and you would need professional advice

Thanks for the replies.

Spaceman - could you clarify what you mean by the IOM?

I'd like to add that I am not providing a service as such. I make income from the websites through online advertising and commissions from affilate marketing (i.e redisplaying products featured on other websites on my sites and earning a commission when I send traffic to the original sites).

IOM is Isle of Man.

Get professional advice. It's not worth getting this wrong.
