Paying Solicitors…

Very general question here, do you pay solicitors before or after the work is completed? In my own industry you always pay after the works have been done, but I heard with solicitors its beforehand. Or does it depend / no set rules?
Thanks

"Or does it depend / no set rules? "

There's the answer.

I'm a solicitor. Mostly I get paid at the conclusion of the matter. Especially when I know the clients.

When I don't know the client and/or I think they are going to be awkward or difficult and/or the matter is likely to be complicated and /or lots of reasons, I will look for fees upfront.

Solicitors get quite a bashing generally. But the world is full of rubbish clients who would not think twice about not paying their fees.

I recently paid a solicitor up-front for something.
She gave me two quotes - one for pay up front and one for pay after.
Her service would be cheaper if paid up front, which I thought was fair enough.
