My gross weekly wage is about €1040 but Im paying approx. €425 PAYE. I am married but do not really understand why this is so high??

A quick basic calculation with basic assumptions around tax credits and SRCOP :

(Married one income)
Gross Pay € 1040.00
Less Tax € 147.88
Less PRSI € 55.92
Less Income Levy €10.40
Total Deductions €214.20
Take home pay € 826.80

Emergency Tax at 41%.

You need to post details of the ta credits /SRCOP on your payslip to get more information but Towgers answer is quite likely if your tax affairs are not in order.
