PAYE Tax Credit Query

Hi All,

I started a new career in taxation last month so I am back in the 20% tax bracket for all my income

I started on Jan 7th and get paid weekly, this will be the 6th pay week.

For weeks 1, 2 & 3 I was on emergency tax so only got tax credit of 36 euros.
For weeks 4 & 5 I was on the 2007 credits of 67.69
Now for this week all is ok and the correct credit of 70.41 is applied (I have annual tax credit of 3661).

I know I am entitled to the shortfall of credits for weeks 1-5 but how can I get these, ie do I have to claim them at year end and receive a refund, are they applied to 2009, can they be applied to week 7 of my pay to reduce the tax paid for that week, if so then do I contact the payroll dept in my company to inform them I am entitled to them or contact Revenue?

I understand the theory but no clue of what happens in practice, all I know is that payroll download a file every Monday from Revenue which documents my tax credits.
 
You should not need to do anyhting. Once your new and correct tax credit has been applied to your pay then payroll system should automatically re-calculate and apply any shortfall. If the arrears are not on your next payslip you should be having a word with payroll
 
Thanks Black Sheep, I can see what I will be paid this Friday and the correct tax credit is displayed for the week but the outstanding credits that I am due (from weeks 1-5) have not been applied.

I will contact my payroll dept & ask them to apply them to next week pay & as I will have some left over after that to the following week as well
 
sounds like they've still got you on a week 1 basis rather than cumulative?

Yes I agree with that as it sounds like the cumulative tax credits YTD are not being applied.

Is there any reason you are aware of that you should be on a Week 1 basis for tax?
 
Perhaps the new employer simply hasn't processed the P45 and/or received a TDC?

Started working in tax a month ago in a MNC rather than in practice.
Did the first 2 parts of these exams whilst working in a completely different field, was offered a few jobs to move into taxation in 2005 but could not take the savage cut to my wage
Have completed some of the major expenses in life since 2005, ie got married & got meself a house
So decided to obliterate my wage a month ago and start out as a 20yr old again

back to the topic.......podowd is spot on re week 1 basis rather than cumulative, I called Revenue yesterday & they said this will be rectified for next week when the payroll dept in the company I work for do their download of credits.....so a bumper pay day for me next week
 
Good luck with the career change InfoSeeker, don't mind my last comment, it was nothing personal, your honest comment just struck me as amusing. Don't ever regret the decision; that's the hard bit over...the rest is just detail.
