Hi,

I have recently registered to ROS PAYE online as i felt the ammount of PAYE tax i am paying seemed quite high compared to some of my friends. Currently I'm on a gross weekly salary of €680.59 and am taxed €123.37 in PAYE. (Also- I'm 25 and Single)
As this will most likely be increased in tomorrows budget i have started looking into this further and noticed on my profile in the ROS Tax Credits and incomes section the following information:

2005: Total Gross Relief Due €2947 (Flat Rate Expenses 97, PAYE Tax Credit 1270, Personal Tax Credit 1580)
2006: Total Gross Relief Due €3205 (Flat Rate Expenses 85, PAYE Tax Credit 1490, Personal Tax Credit 1630)
2007: Total Gross Relief Due €1760 (Personal Tax Credit 1760)
2008: No Active Employments within the requested year- Although i did work 2.5 days a week up to June while back in college and 5 days from then on.

I have tried to request a P21 but it tells me to contact their help desk, when i ring that they say to have your Tax Registration number or your tax agents number ready.
So could someone answer any of the following please:
1) Where to get my tax registration number
2) Should i get all the reliefs they have stated back to me
3) How come they don't have my employment details for 2008
4) Does my PAYE seem high and if so how do i go about correcting that

Apologies for the long e-mail, any info would be helpful.

1) Your Tax registration number is your PPS number. You should have that on a tax credit cert or social welfare card.
2) The reliefs stated would have been set against PAYE due on earnings. Excess tax credits over PAYE due is not refundable, however excess PAYE paid over that which was payable would be refundable. P21's would sort that out.
3) Employers had until 15/02/09 to file end of year PAYE details. Yours may just not be upon the system yet, especially if the employer filed a manual P-35.
4) If €680 is your total weekly gross and there are no other issues then yes, it is high. Your tax credits should be about €70 pw. [(1830+1830)/52] You would be taxable only at 20%. Tax on €680 is €136 less €70 tax credit would leave net tax €66. It sounds like some credit is missing. - Ring the PAYE helpline.

On many payroll systems tax and PRSI are lumped under the heading PAYE. Are you sure that each have seperate headings

Thanks for your replies

Firstly to answer Black Sheep my PRSI is €35.76 and is seperate from my PAYE.

Graham,
1) E-mailed the PAYE anytime help address yesterday and gave her some registeration number i found under the pay & tax section which was obviously wrong.
She replied a while ago saying it was invalid of course so just sent her back my PPS now.
2) Wasn't really sure what tax reliefs were until today. Taught for a second i was owed €8k, haha i wish. Get it now from looking through other threads. I have requested a P21 for 2006 & 2007 but it won't let me get one for 2005 &or 2008 so thats what i have asked the helpline.
3) Possibly this is why i can't get the 2008 P21.
4) My gross is €680 alright, my payslip also says my cut off is 540.10 and tax credit is 44.25. I think now that i may not be getting the 1830 for the PAYE credit because it didn't give me that in 2007 either.
I moved from site to the head office half way through 2007 so along with the flat rate expenses which were to go they may have also taken my PAYE Credit. I think i know what the problem is now. Thanks again.
