I am moving back to Ireland and looking to sell a 2 year old VW Passat bought 5 months ago in the UK. As I am not resident in the UK (less than 6months) I have to pay VRT when importing to Ireland.
My question concerns whether I am better to
a. sell this vehicle before I move back to Ireland or
b. pay the VRT and hold onto the car
c. trade the UK registered vehicle into an Irish garage and purchase a new car (let the garage handle VRT).
Figures taken from ROE website as follows:
In Ireland OMSP for the above Car €21,611 ,VRT@ 25% = €5,402
Price offered by a dealer in the UK = €15,500
