I have a wooden "decking" that I inherited from previous owners that serves as a path running along the back of the house from conservatory to garage and also serves as access to the lawn.
The wooden path looked very well initially and I painted it each year to preserve it.
I don't know what type of wood it is, it is not the grooved hardwood variety that you normally see on decks. It is laid down in the form of long narrow planks with a design and some fencing and seems to be a softer wood
The problem is that the house is NW facing so the path is in shade or damp for much of the year. Despite annual painting the wood has started to rot in places and is looking unsightly.
I am keen to replace it with something else.
I have natural stone indian sandstone in a patio in the garden and granite paving in the driveway. As these are both very light in colour, both are prone to dirt and grime even though they get plenty of sunshine and I need to powerwash them every few months to keep them looking clean.
In a shaded area, I think the accumulation of greenish growth over time would be worse.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a paving to use in a shaded area that won't look a dirty green colour over time.
Open to all suggestions from paving flags, blocks, cobblelock etc or anything else out there such as some kind of artificial hardwearing surface.
As nice as it looks, I probably won't go down the wood route again though.
