Paternity leave question

Hi All,

My partner is due early July and my job are giving me a week off paid.. and i'm also taking 3 weeks holidays so i'll have a month off in total .

Is there a way to take longer leave and get paid something ?

I'd like to take 3 to 4 months off as my partner has 2 disabilities and i'd like to take care of her and the baby for the first few months to make sure everyone is ok and everything goes ok.

I know I can get the time off work that won't be a problem.. ( of course I won't be paid tho ) .. Is there something I can get off the state for those month ?

Sorry if it's a stupid question but I'm not sure where to ask.

Also is you partner currently receiving disability allowance?

She is on disability allowance.

Can I claim carers allowance for a few months ?

Dave29 you could apply for Carers leave from your work, minimum is 4 weeks, max 2 years but you can request any duration within that. At the same time you apply for Carers benefit which I think is about €210 per week. If your wife is in receipt of disability allowance and you have sufficient prsi contributions it should be quite straightforward. It normally takes a few months though so if you want it for early July you'd need to be applying.
