Going to the UK to visit friends on 23 August and my passport expires on the 19th. Sending off my p application today so hoping it will be back in time. Has anyone applied for a passport recently and how long is it taking now ?

Cityjet will let you fly without a passport providing you have photo id such as a full driving licence

If travelling with Aer Lingus, your Driving Licence (or other photographic identification) will suffice. Similarly, if travelling by boat.

Mine took about a month (I tracked it online) - I sent it at the beginning of June 2010

While it states Irish citizens don't require a passport for travel to the UK - how do you prove your citizenship without having the passport/driving licence seeing as all flights put through immigration at Dublin airport

You even need a passport/ID to travel exit the airport even from internal flights, which is pure madness.
