Can anyone throw some light on this! Am looking at buyng a 06 Passat, but how many different models are out there? Are base, comfort and highline all gone now since new model came out? Most of them just say 105bhp on carzone, but then some have alloys and some don't. There's also an S Model like this one...

No-these trim levels are still available, well looking at the new car configurator on Carzone, you can see Comfortline, Highline and Sportline (presume this is the 'S-Line') and I was trying to park a 2007 Highline today....

Not sure on the alloys-seem to be standard on new Passats.
 
I think the S is the UK entry version see here. They are sold in [broken link removed] as standard, comfort, sport & highline. The standard has steel wheels....the rest have alloys.
 
Thats a base model no arm rest is a dead giveaway

Go for at least the next one.

Personally I would go for the sport or the highline.

Much nicer seats, and extras.

Do not buy the basic.

S LINE is an audi trim level.
 
Audi comes in se es and S line are all differect models available on audi.

ford comes in zetec etc.
 
Not sure on the torque, but 105bhp strikes me as pretty feeble for a car of that size.

Its a diesel and its all about the torque, the difference between 100-115 bhp is hardly noticeable in normal day-to-day use; now on autobahns, sin scéal eile. .

That 1.9 PD engine has been available in 90 to 140 bhp versions in VWs, Fords, Audis, Seats, Skodas (including the Superb) for quite a while, a great old work-horse of a yoke but not without its weaknesses and critics.
 


Had a Golf 1.9D tdi 105 and it was a great yoke allright.

Starting to get a bit dated now - new Golf does not carry it, and I dont think it is in the current range of Passats going forward either.
 
VAG have now admitted defeat and are paying Fiat royalties for the use of common-rail technology in their new CR engines. (imagine, Fix It Again Tomorrow )
 
Had a test drive in a Golf (2.0 tdi)during the week and liked it.

There seems to be a fair few of those S Model Passats about. Must be all brought in from UK or NI.?
 
As an owner of a car that uses the Fiat CR engine, they have made a good choice there!

Although I'm not enamoured with power from a standing start (roundabouts, junctions etc) and will probably have it remapped from 305NM to 355NM-and it's a ligher car than the Passat.

What's the torque like on an entry level Passat?
