Part time work and JB

Hi
I posted this in another forum originally but I think this is now the correct one.
I know when you are let go you qualify for JBenefit for a year before you go onto JAllowance. If you work part-time say for 2 weeks a month and you claim JB for the other 2 weeks a month, how long will JB be allowed? Will it be for 2 years as you are only claiming JB for half the time?
Thanks.

Thanks Welfarite that makes sense to me. Can I ask you just to confirm the following scenario. If I work week on / week off or 2 weeks per month, I will be claiming an average of 12/13 days JB per month. Therfore JB will last 2 years (312/13= 24 months.) This sounds right as I would only be working half the time , or if I was made redundant and not working I could claim JB for 1 year.

I'm the same, I'm working partime at the moment. My JB would have been due to run out in October but someone mentioned to me that if I work 13 weeks I'd be entitled to JB for another 312 days/1 year is that true Welfarite?

Yes, if you work 13 weeks AFTER you have already claimed 6 months 'stamps' (156 days). these contributions help to 'requalify' you for JB for another 312 days. However, the earnings (say if you are only getting two dsays work in the week) may impact on the rateb of JB payment you get on the 'requalifed' claim and you exhaust the first 312 days.
