Read a couple of articles about buying a parking space (Dublin) as an Investment. How would someone go about buying one though ?

Surely with all the improvements in public transport coming on stream over the next 10 years or so they would be a bad long term investment?

Is discussion on future prices of parking spaces permitted? - Is it classed as property?

Its just that i read in a couple of papers that they could be a good investment.

Long term? Cars will become much more of a luxury in the future and with that car parking so i would lend to think that it would have good long term prospects.

Did anyone catch that business program on rte radio on saturday or sunday morning. Talked about all kinds of investments for this year (stocks, property) and its just that car parking spaces were also mentioned.

The Business is a half-hour magazine programme looking at business and enterprise in Ireland, with a touch of personal finance added for good measure. You can expect to hear not only news on stocks, shares, property and investment, but a special focus on new and start up enterprises and in particular those innovators who are driving both the new and old economies.

You could post a wanted ad on Daft
http://www.daft.ie/dublin/parking_spaces/
or see if you can post a notice in apartment blocks, though you'd have to get access.
If you plan to rent it out make sure there is a demand, of the parking spaces in our apartment block only about 50% are used. I rent mine for €50 a month. It's a Dublin city centre apartment so I guess a lot of people don't have cars. There

I considered buying one in my complex to rent out - I put add in daft and didn't get one response! So I left it there.

I don't think it would be a good investment what with upcoming improvements to public transport, decentralisation etc. I've also heard congestion charges may be brought in the near future
