Could anybody recommend a medium range hotel in Paris.......near enough to centre or metro if further out?
Cheers

Have a look at the sticky or use the search function. This has been asked on numerous times here already.

paris is so spread out that if you can get any of the hotels in the
Opera district - that is a nice area.

Stayed at Hotel Excelsior Opera a few years ago. Basic hotel but a good location, close to department stores and airport bus connections

Hotel Langlois http://www.hotel-langlois.com/

Myself, wife and three children have stayed there twice (Bastille Day 2004 and February 2005). We like our comforts, but, are on a family budget! After doing a lot of research I found it via . The hotel is situated in the 9th, about 200m from La Trinité metro stop and is easily accessible from CDG Airport by train (RER is three blocks away) and Metro. The Opera and main shopping district (Printemps, Galleries Lafayette etc) is within walking distance. Our youngest was 6 on our first visit and he could walk everywhere... even as far as the Louvre and Tuilleries one time!

The hotel has old style Paris decor with one of those old elevators and antiques and paintings dotted around the corridors and in every room. The street is very quiet and there is a great pattisserie a couple of doors away. We took a suite - two spacious rooms and a separate bathroom. A good buffet breakfast ( c. €7) is also served (cereals, crossants, youghurts, lots of coffee, fruit etc) which is a must with kids.

There are good French restaurants between the hotel and Montmartre (too seedy at night for young kids).

You won't go wrong with this hotel. Meet the staff with a smile and courtesy and they will be more than helpful. They also keep your luggage on your last day after booking out. Read the reviews on

One tip, buy your Carte D'Orange at Gare Du Nord train station if travelling from CDG Airport - you will need passport photos for everyone, but, is well worth it and saves time if you are staying for a few days and travelling with children. The Metro system is brilliant and makes Dublin's DART and Luas laughable. Also, pushing sailing boats in the Tuilleries gardens near the Louvre occupies small boys and their Dad while Mum and daugters get retail therapy!
