Panda Brown Bin Service Charge

Got my panda bill recently and on it there’s a three monthly brown bin service charge of €5.50 plus vat @ 13.5%.

There is no brown bin service charge on my two previous bills and I don’t ever recall seeing this charge previously.

As I don’t use my brown bin I rang Panda and asked them to take it back.

They said they won’t take it back as I am obliged to have a brown bin, but they will apply a credit to my account for this period and I will not have to pay this charge in future.

My guess is most who do not use their brown bin will either not notice or just accept this charge and continue to pay for something they are not using.

I don’t have a question, this post is for information only, as I am sure this €25 annual charge could be put to better use by many.

Yes, I have a compost bin.

No, I don't have a council exemption.

FYI, I am in DLRCC.

Well done twofor 1.
I am in DLRCC too.
Panda sent a letter notifying the change before the recent bill including the brown bin fee.
I have never used the brown bin either !
Thanks for the information.

Thanks again twofor1. I tried what you did and got the same answer from Panda who have now deleted the brown bin charge.

I got a brown bin from Panda a long time ago but almost immediately gave it back to them as it was no use to me. Are Panda going to now make sure that everyone has a brown bin regardless, and start charging for it?

Also it will now be an offence to put food waste in the grey bin? The brown bin collections are fortnightly, which will mean disgusting fly infestations in summer which was my original objection to the brown bin. Will they mind if their biodegradable waste is laced with permethrin?
