Hi

Want to paint my kitchen units white, they are currently an oak colour.
Have got quote of 800 for spraying & have been told lots of fumes & paint gets on tiles etc. A friend said he could hand paint it and there would be no brush strokes visible. Dont want it to look too diy. Has anyone tried this?
Tks

Spraying is the only way to go if you do not want brush strokes ...

Would it no be easier/cheaper to get new doors?

Professionally sprayed will always be best...

But if you want to have a go at it yourself. International do a range of primers just for this job - you will see them in B&Q etc.

Unless you are comfortable with spraying don't spray - if you are spraying, you should contact http://www.becker-acroma.com - they are in ireland and have every sort of furniture paint imaginable.

If you don't want to spray - take the doors off and lay them flat (let gravity be your friend - for once ;-)) use a good gloss brush or a gloss roller. use small amounts and build up the coats slowly. Use a brush if there is a lot of decorative work in the wood. In my experience oil based paints seem to flow better with gravity and give a finish without brush strokes. With a bit of practice you will do it without brush strokes and sure if you are thinking of changing the doors, give it a go anyway - paint is cheap!
