Painting Inside Of new house

I have anew house and i plan on painting the inside which are drying at the moment the man in the paint shop said we should apply paint mixed with water to let it soak into the walls and then paint two coats of the color we want .How much paint / water do u mix ? and will white be ok first if we are painting it yellow after ?Cheers
 
Yes, you should mix the paint with some water, up to 50% although I have often thought this was wasteful and prolonging the drying process. White is a good base for any colour as it will give you a true colour when you apply thye coloured paint. You may find some patches of plaster may not take the paint well and you could have some PVA glue (Unibond I think) handy to try and cover it to give a base. Slim
 
10-15% dilution on first coat.

Around 1-1.5l per 10l bucket of paint.

White will be fine as a base coat for yellow.

Two coats of yellow afterwards.

UPDATE
I started painting over the weekend but when i put on the paint which was €25 a 10 litre bucket decided against the €15 per 10 litre as the man in the paint shop said it was not great it looks all patchy is common on the first coat and will it not be patch when i have 3 coats on??any help be great full.
 
I wouldn't be too concerned if the paint was a bit patchy on the first coat; I'd start to worry if it were still patchy after the second.
 
this has been covered many times in the past,anyway pay no attention to anyone who tells you to mix water in to paint for the first coat,or the second coat or any coat,you do not ever put normal white paint on to new solid plastered walls,you need to use acrylic primer for the first coat,and the guy in the paint shop who told you to add water to the first coat is filling you with crap...acrylic primer is what you need stops all the blotches or mapping.acrylic primer is white and thats why people think when they see a new house first coated thats its normal white paint....
