Have post and rail fencing all along one side of my house for the last 5 years. Have been treating it with medium oak fence lite every second year. I did it last year and it really needs to be done again. Is really faded and starting to crack. Someone told me fencelite is a waste of time over the long term. What do people recommend here? Would cresoe be best, want something that will last 2 years at least and protect it. Has to be preferably brown though. Any help appreciated.

Iv found our deck, handrails, fence panels, timber furniture etc needs to painted twice a year, once in feb n again in sept...I use ronseal dark oak paint out of woodies..you can buy it in the sales....takes about 4 days a year but worth it...

I painted my fence with Cuprinol Garden Shades (http://www.cuprinol.co.uk/products/garden_shades.jsp). I did it in a very fetching shade of blue (think outside the brown!) but they actually do have a shades of brown in the range - presumably to be able to paint over other colours. I also did my shiplap shed in pink and white stripes (very summery looking).

Did both about three years ago in a very sunny garden and the colours have lasted very well. (They are protective btw, made for outdoor wood). They also mix very well if you want to create your own shade or shades. I would highly recommend them - and urge you to think outside the brown box!

Ya i'd love something different from brown. Any idea how much the Cuprinol stuff is?

Don't recall exactly, but it's about the same as other options I think. I got it in Homebase, but any of the DIY places should have it (although I would assume bigger shops would have more colours). They also do small tester pots that are v handy.

Will all of the colours in the Cuprinol Garden Shades range cover up a fence that has previously been painted in a dark brown colour (Ronseal Fencelife Dark Oak)?

Would love to change my shed and fence colour to a beige colour. Anyone know will Cuprinol cover this?

I covered a shed that was brown with a pale green shade of Garden shades and it looks great.

It is more expensive that the "standard" fence paint, but it lasts 4 years, and I think it was worth it.

For long lasting I would not pass Sadlins

I use it on outdoor doors, gates furniture and anything that needs protecting and lasts for at least 3 years. I have only used wood colours not sure if they have other selection.
My timbers lasts at least 3 years.

Out of interest how do you paint your post and rail fence? Brush?
I have a long post and rail fence (about 150 m) and it takes ages to paint with a brush. Would a sprayer work or would there be too much wastage? I tried a sponge but it was also slow although a bit quicker than the brush.

We have about 100m of fencing and paint it with a roller. They sprayer is good but goes everywhere and the brush is too slow.
