Does anyone know how much it would cost to get a new unfurnished 3 bed house completely painted on the inside (In Dublin!!) Its approx 1150 sq. ft. How do painters generally make their price? By square footage etc?

Also, as it would be for selling, it may be decided to give it just one coat of paint. If the paint is put on full strength for better coverage (not watered down to seal the walls) would this cause a problem at any stage?

In answer to your second question: if a newly plastered wall is not sealed you will very quickly see a problem. I would not have thought that doing the job properly once would be any more expensive than doing the job twice!

How do I paint new plaster?
New plaster must be given enough time to dry completely before painting.
A good guide is when the plaster has turned a light pink colour all over. Wet plaster is a dark beige colour. Skimmed plaster board will dry quite quickly, depending upon the time of year. However, traditional solid construction can take several weeks, especially when conditions are cold and damp.
New or bare plaster should be sealed with either Sealapore, or, when using Vinyl Matt, Soft Sheen or Silk, a first coat thinned with 1 part water to 4 parts paint.
