I recently returned to work on a part-time basis of approx 18hrs per week over 3 days, at €10 an hour.I was on job seekers benefit and informed the social welfare and they are making the necessary adjustments regarding my claim.I informed the revenue to pass on my tax credits to my wife when I became unemployed and was wondering should I let my wife keep my credits or should I transfer them back. The company I work for pay monthly and I got my first payslip and I paid no tax or income levy ,is this a mistake or am I not in the tax net as my monthly wages are so low,I got paid €763 for the month

When you first start a new job, you should be put on emergency tax until your employer receives verification of your tax credits and rate band. On emergency tax, everyone receives a standard credit and rate band which is then reduced (eventually, you would be paying 41% on everything).

So, you may find that you haven't paid tax as you're on emergency tax. I would go to the payroll department and ask them about your tax. They take queries like yours all the time.

It appears to me you should leave the tax credits with your wife as your PAYE credit will cover your earnings.

Contact revenue, tell them the date you started back to work, give them your employers reg no. and they will set you up again
