P50 Help.

Hi.

I wondering if someone would be able to help with a couple of queries I have regarding filing a P50 form 'Claim for income tax repayment' with HM Revenue.

I am making a claim for the income tax I paid last year.

HM Revenue sent me a P50 form which I have since completed and returned. I returned this form about 3 weeks ago and haven't heard back as yet.

I assumed I would receive some sort of generic acknowledgment as a receipt of receiving my form/ claim?

I live in London and I was told to send the form to Lothian’s, Saughton House, Broomhouse Drive, EDINBURGH, EH11 4XG. Which I believe is the wrong place to send this form to!? As accordingly to the HM Revenue website Lothian’s is the local office/s for Newcastle!?

I don't know who or where I need to get in contact with to find out with what's happening with my claim I wondered if anyone could help?

I also when I filled in the P50 form I was made unemployed (with P45) and when I filed in my claim I had been unemployed/ not claiming any benefits for 5 weeks.

If I claim Jobseekers' allowance now does anyone if this affects the claim as such in anyway?

If this was in Ireland (where, coincidentally or not, the forms have the same names) then you would send such claims to the local tax office detailed on your annual statement of tax credits or other communications from Revenue rather than some centralised office. But I have no idea how the UK system works. And three weeks to process such a claim doesn't sound outrageous in the greater scheme of things. Do they not have some contacts for checking the status of such claims?

Also - here in Ireland your claim for social welfare benefits such as Jobseeker's Allowance/Benefit would not be in any way impacted by any outstanding P50 claim for tax but again I don't know the UK system. I presume the DHSS (or whatever they're called these days) can advise you?

Do you have an equivalent of www.citizensinformation.ie over there who could help you?

I dunno, I didn't think 3 weeks was a long ti wait or anything. I just assumed I would get an acknowledgment 'we are dealing with your claim' kind of thing I didn't actually expect it to all be sorted in this time.
