Oxigen to stop collecting bins on Dublin Southside - but don't give any notice

I put out my bins once every 4 to 6 weeks, so I don't keep an eye on the calendar. I get a text from Oxigen the night before.

I haven't received a text in about 6 weeks, so I rang them today, to be told that they have stopped collecting bins on the whole of the southside of Dublin.

They have given me no notice.
They are passing on my details to Thorntons.
They are passing on the balance in my account to Thorntons.

If I want to close my account, I have to ring Thorntons!

This seems weird to me.

I am surprised that I have not read about it in the papers.

I would have thought they would have had to get your consent before passing on your details to any third party.

Friend of mine is in the same position, but they did get a letter from Oxigen saying their account had been handed over, and to expect a letter from Thorntons, no sign of that one though.

So what are my options here?

I will probably ask City Bin to collect my bins and they will give me two or three nice shiny new bins.

But what do I do with my overflowing Oxigen bins?

I have made it clear to Oxigen that I want them to honour their contract with me until they give me valid termination notice.

Update:

Oxigen agreed to collect the bins and refund me the unused money.

They have just sent a van around and collected them.

I have signed up with City Bin.
