Overseas shipping of personal items to Asia

Hi all, We are looking at moving some personal items, clothes, kitchen items etc. to Thailand. Does any one know the best and most cost effective way to ship a smallish quantity of personal items overseas?
Is the cost based on weight or volume?
How safe is it?
Any thoughts and advice on ways to proceed would be greatly appreciated as we are not sure what way to go about it.

My advice to you is don't bother. Thailand is cheap as chips for everything.

You'll pick up new stuff & then some for the cost of shipping this stuff about. Don't waste your money, oh & enjoy Thailand, lucky you.
