Overseas investment property insurance. Suggestions ?

I am trying to find a company that will insure my overseas apartments. Not against rental income - as some do & I'm sure they're very expensive - but just the normal fire, damage etc policy.
Has anybody any experience in this regard ?
 
We just bought an apartment in France and it's commonplace there for the building insurance to be included in the annual fee payable to the Management Company or Syndicate - is this not the case for your apartments? What country are they in?

We only have to organise contents insurance ourselves.
 
Berlin & Budapest. Yes I was looking at a place in France & insurance was mandatory & included but that was for a new build. My apts are in classic buildings.

I was told some Irish companies will do cover.

At least then I'd be able to understand what is covered !
 
If you own an apartment then im sure there must be some common insurance. usually the landlord / freeholder insures the building and divides the cost to the various owners. What if there was a fire above you and the owner didnt have insurance? I dont think that it is possible to insure a single apartment in a building under a normal buildings insurance policy
 
Thanks to you all. I think my apts are covered under the maintenance payments....just going to check it out to make sure.
 
Perplexed, the best way in Berlin is to get a german insurance, it's easy and quite cheap. Your letting agent/manager will advise and source insurance. However, you are probably already paying insurance in the monthly charges - just make sure to check what exactly it covers, it's good to also have liability insurance not just building insurance.
