Overpayment of MIS by HSE - how to repay?

Our MIS was reviewed this week and we're not entitled to it anymore. However, the CWO, in her letter, stated that as we had not informed them that I had taken up part-time employment (in May) we have to repay the MIS. It's not stated in the letter how much and I'm assuming it's from June to October (last months payment) We've to call in and see her next week.

DH is still unemployed and his SW was cut accordingly when I got my job.

My question is : reasonably how much would we be expected to pay? and how, weekly? monthly? It could be as much 1500e but may be less. I don't know if we've to pay back the whole amount or just the amount we're "over" by.

They should be able to come up with a repayment plan which suits both of you. Perhaps you should write down what you can afford at the moment and be prepared for the meeting. That way there should be no surprises.

Your entitlement from May should be recalculated, and you will only be asked to repay the difference between what you actually got and what you should have received for that time.

As elcato said, a repayment plan will be discussed and agreed with you, so you won't be asked to repay at a rate greater than you can currently afford.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I was off line for the weekend, am only checking in now. The problem is, according to the letter, we should have got NOTHING! I'm hoping that we only have to pay the amount we are "over" by. Am going in to see them tomorrow with DH.

You only have to repay what you received from May onwards -you won't have to repay what you received up to that time, as you had an entitlement until you started work.
