overpaying my mortgage using aib online

I have a tracker mortgage with aib. I asked them if I could transfer money from my current account to my mortgage account online( E.G. overpay my mortgage).
They said this couldn't be done but I could call into the branch and they would do it there. Does anyone know if aib are just making less convenient for me to overpay my mortgage or not? Thanks.

If your intention here is to make accelerated lump sum or regular capital repayments then make sure that AIB understand this and get confirmation in writing - just so they don't think that you want to build up a credit balance on your account for whenever you might miss normal repayments etc. Does that make sense to you?

It does make sense alright. I just want to be able to pay extra online and not have to call to the bank. Thanks for your quick reply.

I have the same problem. I can view the mortgage Online but I cannot transfer payments to it. My Mortgage is with AIB Finance & Leasing and I thought that was the reason (they are a separate entity) but it seems they also do not allow it for regular AIB customers.

Anybody who works for AIB know why this is the case?

Can you not set the mortgage/account up as a bill payment in order to effect such transfers? That's how my PTSB online account tends to work although I've never done this with a mortgage specifically. As I say make sure that any overpayments are confirmed as capital repayments if that is your intention.

No, there is no option for it not there under bill pay and you can't transfer money into it. I'll contact them again and see if they can help me.

What I mean is can you not call them and get them to set up a new bill payment which points to your mortgage account as opposed to you setting this yup yourself? That's the way my PTSB banking works anyway - i.e. a new billpay requires you to call them to set it up initially.

Setting up the bill payment to point to the mortgage.

I contacted aib internet banking. They said that this couldn't be done because of the type of loan , they also mentioned that the finance and leasing couldn't be done either.

The only way I can pay more off my mortgage is to go into my own branch and pay it.

Strange - when I was with EBS and wanted to accelerate my repayments I just wrote to them and they collected the increased amount through the normal direct debit.

This topic interests me as i have mortgage with Ulster bank. Just setted up my banking online and was wondering if they offer the facility that you are both discussing.

Hi Johnny,

I can confirm that UB have not allowed me to set up extra repayments online. As a matter of fact, we have been told that we cannot increase our monthly repayments without signing for a new mortgage as the T&C would then be changed. The only option we have for increased mortgage repayments is a one-off lump sum repayment accompanied by a letter requesting that it be deducted from the capital.

Sorry about that.

Oh dear, this thread is disheartening. Just about to start a mortgage (I hope! Sale not closed yet!) and would like to overpay. Has anyone successfully made regular online capital repayments/overpayments to a BoI mortgage?
