Was charged nearly EUR18 for 2 drinks in baggot street pub last night.

Queried price with barman, who was none too happy - gave me back EUR2 and said round should have been EUR15.20. Chap beside me at bar said that he had been overcharged also.

It was late on rugby international night and we were probably two of the more sober people in the place. Anyway this barman was particularly rattled. We asked another barman if we could talk to the owner/manager and they pointed to him - the overcharger! We were totally shocked.

For info - Same round was EUR13.80 in Peters Pub earlier that evening.

Didn't think of looking at price list outside door when we left but will do so today/tomorrow.

I feel very strongly that they should not be allowed get away with this - and would like to take some action. Do I talk to the consumer association?

I have no problem naming the pub - but moderators would have to give the OK.

Re: Overcharged in Baggot St pub last night

The Vitners Association do need to put some credibility into their Industry. Is it any wonder that the Pubs are doing badly - and that's long before the R word.

Unless they form some kind of credible Q mark that their members adhere to and applicable to each and every one, things will go mfrom bad to worse. Not just in Dublin but Nationwide.

Re: Overcharged in Baggot St pub last night

Let us know how you get on, would be interested to know the ACTUAL price of your two drinks too...

Don't forget that some pubs put their prices up the later into the night you buy. I do seem to remember hearing of this in Baggot St in the Lansdowne Road days.

Impossible to know if you were overcharged without knowing what exactly drinks you actually bought. If it was two vodkas and redbull then I wouldnt be surprised with €15.20

I'm not actually sure whether I should be talking about overcharging or shortchanging here. They didn't issue receipts and I didn't check the price list outside when we left.

The round "apparently" SHOULD HAVE BEEN EUR15.20 - am being careful as I can with my wording here ... I think that I was deliberately short changed on the presumption that you would have consumed a fair bit by that stage of the night and be well on enough not to notice. When I queried price barman got very agitated because it triggered a discussion with the guy beside me who had also been overcharged/shortchanged.

The round was gin & tonic, bacardi and diet coke [it was a can of coke]. We would have thought 15.20 was more like it than nearly EUR18.

Will try to get into baggot street area tonight/tomorrow to see what prices are listed outside.

OK - got the prices displayed outside the pub.

Gin - 4.70
Mixer - 2.20

We know the can of coke was EUR3 so seems that 15.20 was in order for the round.

So getting back to original query - if we're talking about shortchanging - can I bring my complaint anywhere?
