Hi Guys

Just wondering, my oven door exploded over the weekend for no reason, glass everywhere - very lucky nobody was in the room. Anyway, how soon should I expect a replacement oven - it's just that I'm really lost without it, we use it everyday and I'm told by the company that the engineer won't be out to examine it until Friday and he won't be replacing it then, he'll just be looking at it. The oven is approximately six months old.

Oh that sounds terrible.

First of all, I would imagine the engineer will just try and fix it instead of replacing it. I would definitely talk to customer services before the planned visit from the engineer and say you would just not be happy to have the same oven in your home as there could have been a nasty accident should someone have been in the room.

Kick up some stink, as if you don't I'd say they will just fit you with some new glass and you will always be thinking that it might explode again!

I agree with gotsomenow, talk to customer services. You don't need to totally raise the roof, but make it clear to them what you expect.

Try having a look at www.consumerassociation.ie - "Your Rights & How To Complain" will give you a bit of info; the "Know your rights" "Legal Protection" and particularly the "Retailers' responses" pages are also useful.

Note that you don't have to accept a repair. In your situation I would be insisting that a new oven be delivered to me straight away. As noted above, you'd never trust the existing oven again.

The oven door at our home house exploded a few years ago - they replaced the glass and it has been fine since and that must be 10 years ago ~ It also was only a few months old at the time.
