Hi,

Advice please as I am unsure what to do re aeroboard ceiling tiles which ideally I would like to remove. They are the white 2' x 2' size which have become dented over the years and have a pattern. At first I thought it would be just a matter of re-slabbing them BUT they are attached to light plywood which is a false ceiling where the original ceiling was a lot higher. In order to do the slabbing, I would need to put new timber across. As I am trying to keep the costs down, I wondered if I could try and remove the aeroboard and maybe even the plywood and replace with new plywood and then get it skimmed for a smooth finish?

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

More knowledgeable people on here will probably comment further, but I have a vague memory that 'aeroboard' in old houses can contain asbestos. Don't do anything to them until you research it a bit more - maybe post a picture up here so some of the building people on this site could advise.

Sherman,

Thank you for that. Good idea re picture. These are very light flimsy things and don't think contain asbestos but will hold off for sure. Cheers.

is your original ceiling very high. I know my parents had the same as you have. They took them down and slabed the original ceiling and plastered it.

Dont know much about it really only you brought back memories for me. they were very popular during the 80's

best of luck
