Options for text bundles

I would like to set up a text service for my local soccer club so as to help inform players of matches training etc. What are my options here and what operator offers the most suitable service?
Do I need to buy a phone or do any of the operators have an online account that I could sign up to for texts only, without having to purchase a phone?

Any suggestions appreciated.
 
If you're a Vodafone customer (and presumably O2 as well), you can use their online text message service for free - something like 300 texts per month.

You can send to multiple numbers at once.
 
I use vodafone for exactly the same - texting match/training times etc to our players. Vodafone however limits you to five texts per time but the back button on the browser works a treat.
 
yes with 02 you get 250 free txts per month online. But you can only receive txts back if you had a phone . and you can set up group txts so you can add all the players as 1 group and only have to type the message once
