I'm thinking of buying a 2 bed in MtJoy Sq for €330k, I think the pluses are its in a georgian building and good rental area, but I've heard there are problems with drug users in the area...? Theres one 2 bed for rent on daft for 1400, does anyone know if this is a realistic rental price for this area?

It's a lovely Georgian Square. Unfortunately I have also heard there are drug problems in the area. I think 1400 a month for a 2 bed in this location is way too high.

I grew up not far from Mountjoy Square. Spent a lot of my childhood in the playground and in the park there. My parents still live in the area. Its a brilliant convenient location, 5 minutes walk from O'Connell Street. Over the years the park has not been maintained very well. I would often use it to walk through as a shortcut. This summer I felt that I could not do this as the park was often populated with people drunk or drinking. Its a shame as it is a beautiful Georgian square and it appears that the park is not policed or well maintained. It wouldn't happen to Stephens Green or Merrion or Fitzwilliam Square. I've written to DCC on the state of the park recentlly but haven't received a reply yet.
Why not drop into the Garda Station at Fitzgibbon Street? They will give you an opinion. Personally I would not buy an apt there or rent there although 330k in the current market for a centrally located 2bed is ok. PM me if you want any other specifics on the area.
