OPFP with earnings & maintenance

I can find examples for OFP calculations for someone with wages or with maintenance but not with both. *I am trying to figure out if maintenance is added into the calculations at the means part or at the earnings part. *Now logically maintenance is not earnings but I don't know how SW deal with it.

For example:

Mary earns €300 a week and receives €150 in maintenance for her 3 children. *She has no mortgage and pays no rent.

The first €146.50 is not considered so her means are (€300 - €146.5)/2 = €76.75. *Half of her maintenance is considered means so her total means should work out at €151.75. *

Therefore her OFP payment is €43 plus €29.80 per child which is a total of €132.40

Have I worked that out right?

If SW include maintenance at the earnings part of the calculation Mary goes over the €425 earnings threshold and is not eligible to apply for OFP.

Does anyone know where maintenance is included in the calculations by SW?

According to the OFP operational guidelines (link below), the €425 limit applies to earnings from employment or self-employment only, so maintenance wouldn't counted at this point.

Your calcuation appears to be correct with one minor change - from 2012, the earnings disregard was reduced from €146 to €130 pw. I'm assuming the €300 earnings you mentioned are the assessable earnings (gross less PRSI, Superannuation, union deductions, AVCs).

Thanks for that. I thought the disregard had been reduced but welfare.ie has not been amended to reflect that.
