Want to buy a house in Scotland for holidays/rental. Have finance, sourced in Republic of Ireland. Can't find any UK bank willing to let me open an account because of non resident status. Want to be able to pay bills/workmen etc in sterling and to receive rent in sterling. Can anyone advise?
I also had trouble opening an account in the UK. Lloyds TSB wouldn't touch me even though I am a shareholder! I eventually opened one in the BOI in Newry
I have an account here with Ulster Bank and regularly pay in Sterling cash and cheques and have no problems or no charges are incurred (amounts are not massive - low hundreds). The exchange rate is probably not the best - but it's not bad.
