Opening a "double door"/patio door from the outside.

I've had a patio door put it as part of an extension a few months ago.

Recently i thought it might be handy to come into the house using this door.

when i tried to lock it on my way out i found that the keys dont work from the outside at all - its like they're the wrong keys entirely. is this usual??

they keys work fine in the inside.

wish i'd chcked it before the blasted builder took off.

Have the same doors myself, don't really have this problem though. Did you put a squirt of WD40 into the keyhole on the outside or just put some vaseline on the key before putting it in sometimes mine jams a bit but the WD40 does the job.
