Buying a 1.6 as opposed to a 1.4, Can anyone tell me if the extra money is worth it? Is there a noticable difference? Thanks

I personally don't see any advantage in the extra engine size. The 1.4 will still do the 100km/hr speed limit and burn less fuel in doing so. The extra tax and insurance as well as more expensive service costs? I recently had a 1.6 hire car and was amazed at the fuel consumption compared to my 1.4. So, unless you are going to drive around dropping gears to try to be ahead of everyone i would go with the 1.4

I'm not really bothered about getting there before everyone else : ), Its just that i had a 1.4 car with a much lighter frame than the astra sports hatch, and when I test drove the astra 1.4 I found it a little unresponsive to acceleration - where as my current car is great for making a quick dash, you know at round about etc...So I thought the 1.6 might improve performance...thanks for feedback!

you might also want to think abourt resale, if you are bothered. The 1.4 will sell a lot easier than the 1.6

a friend of mine bought a new 1.4 Sports Hatch last year and his first complaint was that the car was slightly under powered. I would go for the 1.6 version..dont be worrying about the resale value...there is nothing worse than having an underpowered car

There's very little in it tbh. I expected a wider differential in performance.

I have the 1.6 SXi Astra Sports hatch - I think it's a great car and couldn't be happier with it. I test drove the 1.4 a few times before I bought it and I thought that it felt a bit sluggish. I would advise going for the 1.6 - there's not much in the difference price wise but there is driving wise.
