Hi,
looking for feedback here. I recently had to get some guttering work done. I wouldnt say theres a whole lot in it, guesstimate 200-250e maybe. Not knowing any gutterers (term?) I threw a request up on onlinetradesmen.ie

Got 10 replies.
First guy says he's local, ok, gave him a call, sounded good. he called out, got up on the ladder, priced it, 200e, all good, when can you start, 2 days. great. week later no sign of him, call him, he's delayed, next week. call him again, delayed again, another week, he'll call me with a date, no call back. so I give up on him.

Ring guy 2. He asks whats in it, I tell him, he says not interested.

Ring guy 3. Will be 3 weeks before I can get to you.

Ring guy 4. He sounds good, can spec and price in a day. comes out, specs, prices, 220e, all good, he goes to get parts, says parts arent in stock, hopefully 2 days later will have them, he'll call me. that was a week ago.

Waiting on guy 5 to ring me back since yesterday morning when he said he'd get back to me within an hour.

Is it me? Is it my gutters? Is it the website? I was very clear in the spec where and what was required so if lads dont want to do the work why reply?

Hi car

It's not the fault of the website.

It's because of the boom in construction in Ireland at the moment. Every tradesman is going flat out and they just don't really have time to fit in everything.

If there is a boom in construction it must be passing me and anyone I deal with out.

You will find alot of tradesmen are very used to the good old days when people had no choice but to wait. As you can see from your post alot are unprepared, unprofessional and simply not business people. There was always a high percentage of comapnies trading in the construction industry that simply got by on the basis of there been so much work. As this has fallen off, you will find some are excellent and others should be left in the Gutter if you excuse the pun.

Nice to hear the Celtic Tiger Tradesman mindset is still going strong...
Did they mumble their words as they scoffed the breakfast roll?

I have direct experience of this also and I know that alot of trademen are keeping themselves VERY busy. They are taking on jobs but keeping you hanging in the air..they cannot get to you to complete the work...or sometimes even start it...because they are genuinely busy worth other work. They are grabbing the work...but lining it up and juggling it as best they can...he who shouts the loudest will get seen to first.... Not very professional way of doing business...but the good ones are getting work...and plenty of it if they know to prioratise to keep the work in the hand and the customers reasonably happy.
