Online Hotel booking problem

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I used an online hotel booking company to book a hotel stay in England recently as I brought my young son to a football match. When I arrived at the hotel they had no record of my booking.
As I'd been travelling overnight and was absolutely knackered I wasn't very happy with them leaving me stranded like that. Especially as I had a very tired young child with me.
Anyway, when I got home I e-mailed them and they fobbed me off with a load of crap that it was the hotels responsibility.
My argument is I paid the booking company for a service I did not receive.
How should I go about getting my money back? Could I go to a small claims court? I'm not happy with being fobbed off and am determined to get my money back!

Did you not receive a voucher of sorts from the website you booked on. Most of these sites send you a voucher which you present to the hotel on arrival. What was the site u booked on?

Yes. I got an accomodation voucher and booking reference number. I Printed it off and brought it with me.
Hotel Receptionist told me they'd no record of booking. They all stood around shrugging there shoulders when I complained and didn't really seem to care. Booking site told me they'd e-mailed the hotel and it was hotels fault my room wasn't booked. They told me they would get onto the hotel and then get back to me. That was a month ago. Seeing as they ignored me I am now determined to take it further. I don't know if I'm allowed to name the company or not???

[broken link removed] for consumer affairs and this for small claims court, hope it works out for you. Not sure whether you can name the company or not but it would be a warning to others if you can.

If you paid with your credit card, can you look to have the transaction cancelled?

Same thing happened me recently, with very well known online booker, the hotel however were very sympathetic, they organised another hotel for us and they paid the bill. I complained to the online booker when I got home, they weren't very helpful, blamed hotel, I did however manage to get a refund. I dont think they realised that the hotel had paid for the replacement hotel, and I didnt tell them.
