Only few few months ago I came to know that I could claim some tax back on medical prescription and a friend of mine told me today that I could claim tax back on Garbage Refuse fees as well.

I am just wondering what other items could we claim tax back?

I lost some money already as I didn't keep medical bills for last few years and starting to keep it from now on as it should be kept for 6 years.

Refuse charges now longer give rise to relief.

The main ones you typically see people missing out on are:

- Medical expenses (including prescriptions and non-routine dental)

- The Home Carer Credit for a "stay at home" spouse

- Tax relief on health insurance where your employer pays the premium

- Expenses in employment (e.g. €733 for a nurse)

- The whole rental income area (75% of interest etc)

- Third Level tuition fees

- Nursing home fees

Good list there. Just some minor additions...

Medical expenses also includes GP visits, physio visits etc If you have private medical insurance and they refund you say 50% of the cost of a €60 GP visit, you can claim MED1 relief on the balance i.e. €30.
MED1 relief does not apply to routine dental or to prescription glasses \ eyetests.

Also if you have an income replacement policy that is classed as a PHIC (Permanent Health Insurance) policy you can claim marginal relief on that. Most of the other reliefs have a 20% rate but if you are on top rate of tax it will apply on the premiums for those policies.

You can submit claims back for 4 years so you have missed out on the claim window for refuse charges.

Cealiacs and certified diabetes sufferers can also claim for the cost of special foods
Speech therapy for under 18s is deductible
Provision of hearing aids

There is a good breakdown here of what is and is not deductible

It might be worth contacting your GP to see if you can get copies of any old bills.
