on Maternity Leave and being made redundant

I am currently on unpaid maternity leave and have been contacted by my employer that they most likely make me redundant when coming back in November of 2009.They told me that they could not guarantee me a job when returning in November.

I have been offered a new job somewhere else and want to make to most my redundancy payment.

I need to meet my employer this week to discuss the situation.

If I return now , I will be made redundant €3960.00 and receive 10 annual leave days paid ( that will workout to almost € 5000 including annual leave)
If I hold on to November with return to work , I will get €4356.00 and 20 annual leave days paid.( that will workout to almost € 6500 including annual leave)

I think this is a big difference in payment.
I was wondering if it is work negotiate with my employer on the amount they will pay now.

I was thinking something half way of the difference amount.

Any advice how to deal with this? Or do I even need to bother doing this?

It's certainly worth a try. You could pitch it to your boss in that he will save money if he agrees. I wouldn't however mention that you have a new job offer as I think this could influence his decision.
