On Jobseeker Benefit - have been offered 1 day per week

Have been on jobseeker benefit since last August. Have always been a PAYE worker. I have been approached by a company I have worked with in the past and offered 1 day paid work per week. Would like some advice on how best to deal with this i.e. do I just advise social welfare office and they correspondingly cut my benefit by 1 day per week?
Also, I am not sure how much to charge for my services. Company have told me that I can simply submit invoice in my own name with PPS number - that tax will not be applicable as I won't be earning enough.
Sorry for the rambling. Could someone point me in the right direction to get correct information. I don't want to get any surprises from tax man!

Sounds like they're sub-contracting you? You sign off for the day you work. From www.welfare.ie: "A self-employed person may be entitled to JB in respect of days of unemployment, where the conditions of entitlement are satisfied."

Yes they would be sub-contracting me / employing me as a consultant. I didn't really want to set up "on my own" because I am actively seeking full time PAYE employment - just want to do it "above board".

One thing to remember is that, down the road, your Sw entitlements may be aff3ected as you won't be building up credits for any weeks that you 'sign off' for one day. It won't affect you until about two years time when 2009 becomes the 'governing year' for claims such as Illness Benefity/Jobseekers and Treatment benefits.

Thanks for that Welfarite - I am trying to get as much info as poss so I don't go into this blind.
So if I sign off for just 1 day per week I lose my credit for the whole week?

Yep, that's basically it. Not too many remifications in the short-term and if the 'self-employment' doesn't last too long but otherwise it may affect you greatly in the future.
