About six weeks ago a cousin invited me to stay with her (rent free) for a year, so as I can work things out. I signed on in Limerick city about six weeks ago and have not heard from them since. They said that they would contact me. Since then things have gone awry. I had a heart attack on April 2 while moving my belongings but made it and got out after a week. An operation that I was supposed to have next month has now been put off for 12 months (because I'm on blood thinners). Should I contact the Social Welfare offfice now? My tablets are costing e100 pm under the govt drug scheme.
Danno19, if you are not fit for work, then you really shouldn't be on JB/JA. You don't say whether it's 'stamps' or 'dole'. If 'stamps', you may have entitlement to Illness Benefit. If 'dole', then go for Disability Allowance you have to considered incapable of work for at least 12 moths to get that). In the meantime, you caqn apply for SWA through local Health Centre as the other poster said.
Was in and met the doctor. Then went to meet the CWO. She said that I may get a medical card. However disability allowance may not apply. She asked if I had chased after my wife for maintainance. (I hadn't). I just wanted to get away from my present situation. My ongoing medical issues may have been brought on by the way I am dealing with all this. My money has run out and although I'm rent free, I don't want to be an economic burden on my cousin. Welfarite, you asked if it was 'dole'. Yes it is.
Maybe, but you'd be better off relying on medical opinion rather than your own intuition when it comes to dealing with life-threatening medical conditions. Best of luck with sorting yourself out.
My monthly prescription of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ran out last night. These cost just under e300 a go but under the government scheme just e100. I just don't have the money. Is there anywhere I can get them while I await my medical card? Can they be retrospectively paid for with the card? I'm very worried about blood clots.
